I Read so much that cachexpress is causing problems, and or crashing...
We need to consider things about having a server running 24/7, and especialy when software we use is cracked (mostly like windows/cachexpress etc.)
I agree with Koroosh to first of all know my budget, how much the data i am serving is worth to me? and how much i am welling to spend for it.
in some cases like an ISP with 1 E1 and more than 12 Lan clients, i had installed cache express on a:
Compaq 6400R
4x 550 MHz Xeon /1 Mb Cache
2GB Ram EDO ECC Reg.
4x 72 GB SCSI/HDD 10000 RPM - 160 - Raid 5 (Smart Array)
2x Power supply
Windows 2000 Advanced server.
the cache size was 80GB, i had to restart only for windows update and over 2 month never stopped or caused any sort of problems, memory usage was about 500 MB, the same server is DNS, Accounting (TACASP) and SQL server and is running for about two year now.
I had another ISP that has 2 E1 and about 8 Lan users, i had installed cachexpress for them on:
P4 2.4
512 DDR ram non-ecc
Giga-Byte M/B
1x 80 GB IDE 7200 RPM HDD (Windows)
2x 36 GB HDD 10000 RPM SCSI - 160 with SCSI Contr.
and this server never lasted more than a week serving only cache with WCCP ver 2. it always crashed no matter what i did, i even removed the SCSI and kept only the IDE, as well it crashed!
i here go back to budget and how much can i spend on good hardware!
I hope we always try to find the problem and admit to it, not to blame things we ignore while it's a must!
Good Luck!
