Microsoft has made a dramatic change in Windows 8, we all know some are good, some are questionable tweaks. You see, the problem when you change something it unavoidably breaks user’s habit. This is very true with the most basic task on a computer, how to shutdown, restart and sleep your computer. Maybe we are heading to the era we don’t ever need to shutdown, restart or put our computer to sleep, but we are not there yet. And Windows 8 has made this simple and essential task difficult.

Here is how to make yourself life easier when using Windows 8 by adding shutdown and restart shortcuts to it

There are couple ways you can do that:
1. The Everlasting Traditional Method

Create a shortcut by right click the desktop > New > Shortcut

Now type: shutdown /p

Give it a name “Shutdown”

And you are done !
You can go further customize the icon of the shortcut you have just created.
Right click on the shortcut > Properties > Change Icon …



Pick the icon.

And further you can right click and “Pin to Start”. This will make the shutdown button to show up in your metro Windows 8 start menu.

You can repeat the same step but change the shortcut to shutdown /r /t 0 that will restart you computer immediately.

2. Run This Dirty Quick Visual Basic Script To Generate Shortcuts

Credit goes to Digital Inspiration, you can simply download and run this VBS script and it will generate “Shutdown, Restart and Log Off” shortcuts for you.



3. Add Restart and Shutdown to Windows X Menu (The Power User Menu)
