SharePoint Error Reporting is a new, easy-to-use, error reporting tool for SharePoint. When an error has occurred in a SharePoint site, the error page appears and requests the user permission to send a detailed report of the problem to the site administrator. The SharePoint administrator or developer can then use this data to address the problem in future releases and product versions.

One of the goals of SharePoint Error Reporting is to notify the site administrator of every end-users problem. The information is being collected in a SharePoint list on the central administrator site. The site administrator receives an e-mail when an error has occurred. At this point, you can choose to view the technical information contained in the report, or \ and you can send the report to the development team.


How It Works


  1. An Error has Occurred - When an error is identified or thrown, the user is redirected to the error.aspx page.
  2. Collects the data - Gather information about the user (browser, IP, front-end, language and etc.) and the current site (URL, title).
  3. Optional Description – Users can provide a description before the error is sent.
  4. Store the Error and User information - Store the data in the Error Reporting list on the Central Administration.
  5. You Get an Email - Email alerts notify you of a SharePoint error.
