To assign a new default publishing point
- To assign or create a new default publishing point, remove or rename the existing default publishing point.
- In the console tree, click the publishing point that you want to assign as the default.
-or- - Create a new publishing point using the Add Publishing Point Wizard or the advanced method.
- On the Action menu, click Rename.
- In Publishing Point Name, replace the existing name with a forward slash (/) and then click OK.
The publishing point name will change to display <Default>.
For Windows Media Services Administrator for the Web
- To assign or create a new default publishing point, remove or rename the existing default publishing point.
- In the console tree, click Publishing Points.
- Click the publishing point that you want to assign as the default.
-or- - Click the Add button to create a new publishing point.
- Click the Rename button.
- In Publishing Point Name, replace the existing name with a forward slash (/), and then click OK.
The publishing point will change to display <Default>.

To configure a publishing point on windows media services login to your Windows 2003 Server and and go to
start click on
All Programs then click on
Administrative Tools and select
Windows Media Services:
On the left menu, right-click on
Publishing Points and select
Add a Publishing Point (Wizard)
The Publishing point wizard should come up:
Click on
Next. Give a name to your publishing point on the next window:
Click on
Next. Next you need to choose the content type from the following options:
- Encoder (live stream)
- playlist ( a mix of files and/or live streams that you can combine into a continuous stream
- One file ( useful to broadcast an archived file)
- files (digital media or playlist) in a directory (useful for providing access for on-demand playback through a single publishing point)
I will choose the third option (One file (useful for a broadcast of an archived file). Click
Next. On the next window, you need to select your publishing point type:
I will choose the second option (
On-Demand publishing point) thus giving users the freedom to control the stream.
Click
Next. On the next window, you will be asked if you want to add a new on-demand publishing point or use an existing one:
Choose
Add a new publishing point. Click
Next. On the next window choose the location of the file(s) you want to publish. I will publish a test video. once you click on browse, a list of directories on the root drive will come up, browse to the location of your media files ( you need to have the file(s) on the WMRoot directory in order to be streamed by windows media services) once you locate the file, click on select file on the right-hand pane. you should get back to the previous window:
Click
Next. Next, you will be asked if you want to enable logging for this publishing point. leave the default, unchecked. Click Next.
Next you will be presented with the publishing point summary, make sure everything is correct:

next. On the next window, click Ok.
Now, your publishing point should be created. to see the result of your work, open windows media player on your computer and go to
file and then click on
Open URL: type the URL of your publishing point as :
mms://HDGEEKDC/Geek-videos“ and click OK. the movie should start playing.
