[LEFT][B]Backtrack[/B] 4 does not contain any installer yet thus we wrote this step by step guide based on muts cookbook on how to install [B]Backtrack[/B] 4 on our hard disk drive.
[B]Step 1 – Creating the partitions[/B]
First we will need to create three partitions to be able to install [B]backtrack[/B] on our hard disk drive. We will need boot, swap and root partitions to be created. (We can still create 2 partitions and install the boot inside the root [B]partition[/B])

After we create the three partitions we need to change the type of [B]partition[/B] 2 to swap and activate the boot [B]partition[/B], then write the changes
Command (m for help): t
[B]Partition[/B] number (1-4): 2
Hex code (type L to list codes): 82
Changed system type of [B]partition[/B] 2 to 82 ([B]Linux[/B] swap / Solaris)
Command (m for help): a
[B]Partition[/B] number (1-4): 1
Command (m for help): w
The [B]partition[/B] table has been altered!
Calling ioctl() to re-read [B]partition[/B] table.
Syncing disks.

[B]Step 2 – Format the file systems[/B]
We format our file system with mkreiserfs for root [B]partition[/B], ext2 for boot and swap for the swap [B]partition[/B].

[B]Step 3 – Mount and Copy Directories[/B]
After we had prepare the file systems its time to copy over the [B]backtrack[/B] files to our hard drive and configure it to run the [B]backtrack[/B] on boot.

[B]NOTE:[/B] The copy operation will take some time so be patient until it finish
[B]Step 4 – Configure Bootloader[/B]

We will need to configure /etc/lilo.conf and define the boot and root [B]partition[/B] so we will be able to boot into [B]backtrack[/B]. In case we do not correctly define the root [B]partition[/B] we will get an error “Kernel panic: no init found”.

Execute lilo -v and reboot
