One of our client has Sigma accounting, it happenes we have a support contract for his ISP. about 6 months ago
we start supporting this client, we have re-configured his ISP structure, added firewall(PNC Box), updated his
IOS, cleaned his windows unstallations.
we didn't touch there accounting since they had a supermicro server running with P4 2.4GHz and a 512 Ram, so we suggested that they should buy a better server for the accounting, since there PC is doing 100% CPU
load all the time
if they want to generate cards, export data or import, they should restart the server and start doing it
before the load comes back to 100%
2 months ago we installed a new server to handle his accounting, the server has the following:
Dell Power-Edge 6450 with:
4x Xeon 550 / 512 Cache (Slot-1 SECC)
2 GB ECC Dell Registered Ram SD-Ram 100 MHz FSB
3x Seagate Cheetah 15k.3 RPM 36 GB SCSI 160 Hot Plug
1x Dell HP-BackPlane
3x 275 Watt HotPlug PowerSupplies
we installed the Sigma software on this server with Windows 2000 Data Center edition! and remained that
the CPU is still on 100% but this time all the 2GB ram and the 4 CPU is fully utilized!!!
so again we called Sigma support, they adviced to buy the new version (6.6) and the ISP agreed, so last
week we made the upgrade, we used another Dell server with
2x Xeon 500 MHz/2MB Cache Memory each
1GB ECC Dell Registered Ram
3x Quantum Atlas 10k ultra 160 scsi
the installation is made on win2k AS, SQL2k SP3 and BitDifender 7.2
as soon as we start the radius server, the CPU again well go to 100%, we re-installed windows 2003 with
SQL2k SP3a and the same CPU high usage on the DELL 6450.
Last we came back to Dell PE6450 with quad CPU and we installed a new Windows 2000 Advanced Server,
SQL 2000 and SP3a, as soon as we start the radius server we go upto 100% CPU usage, we called support
After making sure that we have no spyware, no trojans, and no viruses, they limited teh SQL to use less
memory and only 2 CPU's, but still it's utilizing the 2 CPU's @ 100%
from our side, all the search we did on google and microsoft, it sais that we should check the table
structures !!! from my point of view i believe it, the problem is in the talbes or the way that Sigma build its
data! why, because as soon as i stop the radius server, the SQLSERVER stops using the CPU's
Now i would really appreciate it if you friends has any such or other experience to share it here for the good
of the people
