Systems Management Server 2003 R2 lets IT managers apply updates to third-party applications automatically on a company's computers in the same way that Microsoft updates are accessed and distributed. Third-party vendors can publish and catalog updates or patches in a specific format that allows the tool to find the patches and distribute them, Microsoft said.

Red Hat earnings rise on business sales

Red Hat, a distributor of open-source Linux software, reported an 11 percent increase in first-quarter net income on Wednesday, boosted by subscriptions from corporate customers.

Red Hat's net income rose to $13.8 million, or 7 cents per share, in the first quarter, ended May 31, from $12.4 million, or 7 cents per share, a year earlier. Revenue rose to $84.0 million from $60.8 million, a year ago.

Red Hat provides update and support services for its version of Linux, which can be copied and modified freely, unlike proprietary software such as Microsoft's Windows operating system.

Novell ejects CEO, CFO

Novell's board of directors on Thursday named Ron Hovsepian as CEO to replace Jack Messman, and ousted the company's chief financial officer.

In a conference call Thursday, company executives said the changes were made to accelerate growth at Novell, which has had disappointing financial results, particularly in its Linux business.

"The board's decision is based purely on an evaluation of who is best suited to lead the company at this stage," Thomas Plaskett, the newly elected chairman of the board, said Thursday.

Hovsepian, 45, had been named chief operating officer last fall and was the heir apparent to Messman, 66, who has served on Novell's board since its founding.

مايکروسافت ۲۸۰ ميليون يورو جريمه شد

کميسيون اروپا شرکت مايکروسافت را به دليل عدم اجرای مصوبات قانون ضد انحصار اتحاديه اروپا به پرداخت ۲۸۰ ميليون يورو محکوم کرده است.

مايکروسافت به اين جريمه اعتراض خواهد کرد. شرکت آمريکايی مايکروسافت و اتحاديه اروپا مدت هاست درگير اين پرونده هستند.

اين دعوای حقوقی زمانی آغاز شد که اتحاديه اروپا در سال ۲۰۰۴ حکمی را تصويب کرد که بر اساس آن مايکروسافت می بايست بخشی از کدهای سيستم عامل ويندوز خود را در دسترس شرکت های رايانه ای ديگر قرار دهد.

اتحاديه اروپا در همين حال گفته است درصورتی که مايکروسافت اطلاعات تکنيکی "کامل و دقيق" را در اختيار رقبايش قرار ندهد، از روز ۳۱ ژوئيه ۲۰۰۶ روزانه جريمه خواهد شد. ممکن است ميزان اين جريمه تا روزانه سه ميليون يورو باشد.

براد اسميت، مشاور عمومی مايکروسافت مصرانه تاکيد کرده که اين شرکت خواسته های کميسيون اروپا را اجرا کرده و گفته است که از اين حکم فرجام خواهد خواست.

به گفته او قرار است مايکروسافت آخرين بخش از اطلاعات درخواستی را روز ۱۸ ژوئيه، چند روز پيش از پايان مهلت اتحاديه اروپا در اختيار رقبا بگذارد.

آقای اسميت ابراز اميدواری کرده که در چند هفته آينده به اين مسئله خاتمه داده شود.

عملکرد غيرقانونی

نيلی کروس، يکی از مسئولان اتحاديه اروپا در امور رقابت در بازار گفته که وی "هيچ جايگزينی جز جريمه کردن" مايکروسافت نداشته و افزوده است: "هيچ شرکتی فراتر از قانون نيست".

خانم کروس گفت: "متاسفم که با گذشت دو سال از تصميم اتحاديه اروپا، مايکروسافت هنوز به عملکرد غيرقانونی اش خاتمه نداده است".

اتحاديه اروپا در مارس ۲۰۰۴ از اين غول نرم افزار سازی خواست که رمزهای بنيادين سيستم های نرم افزاری خود را به روی رقبا بگشايد.

توليد کنندگان نرم افزار در اروپا گلايه کرده اند که به کدهای سيستم عامل ويندوز، ساخت مايکروسافت، دسترسی ندارند.

به مايکروسافت همچنين دستور داده شده بود نسخه ای از ويندوز را بدون نرم افزار پخش فيلم های صوتی و تصويری (مديا پلير) به بازار عرضه کند.

طبق قوانين اتحاديه اروپا، شرکت های تجاری نبايد از قدرتشان برای انحصاری کردن بازار استفاده کنند.

راه اندازی اينترنت کافه فوق العاده سريع


برابر سريع تر از اينترنت های پرسرعت فعلی در کورن وال (Cornwall) بريتانيا آغاز به کار کرده است.

با اين سرعت، کاربران می توانند داده ها را با سرعتی تا ۱۰۰ مگابايت در ثانيه بر روی رايانه خود پياده کنند.

اين کافه به ايستگاه ماهواره ای گونهيلی (Goonhilly) متعلق به شرکت بی تی (BT) در شبه جزيره ليزارد (Lizard peninsula) در کورن وال متصل است.

تصور می شود اين اولين بار در بريتانيا باشد که يک اينترنت کافه با چنين سرعتی به اينترنت متصل می شود.

استفاده از اين خدمات برای مشتريان رايگان خواهد بود.

۶۱ بشقاب ماهواره

آدريان هوسفورد از شرکت بی تی گفته است: "از رايانه های اين اينترنت کافه می شود کل نسخه دی وی دی دانشنامه بريتانيکا را در کمتر از ۱۵ دقيقه پياده کرد. يعنی ۱۹۰۰۰ تصوير، ۶۲۹ فايل صوتی، تصويری و ۱۰۰ هزار مطلب."

"با خطوط پرسرعت استاندارد، پياده کردن چنين حجمی از اطلاعات پنج ساعت بيشتر از اين زمان وقت می برد."

اين اينترنت کافه توسط دو دانش آموز ۱۷ ساله هلتسون کاميونيتی کالج رسما افتتاح شده است.

گونهيلی ۶۱ بشقاب ماهواره ای در اختيار دارد که از آنها برای برقراری ارتباط هزاران مکالمه تلفنی بين المللی، پخش تلويزيونی و تبادل داده ها استفاده می شود.

آرتور، اولين آنتن ايستگاه گونهيلی، برای رديابی ماهواره تل استار (Telstar) ساخته شده بود و سال ۱۹۶۲ اولين تصاوير تلويزيونی آمريکا را از آنسوی اقيانوس اطلس دريافت کرده بود.

Microsoft Acquires Winternals Software

Company appoints operating systems kernel expert Mark Russinovich as technical fellow.

REDMOND, Wash. — July 18, 2006 — Microsoft Corp. today announced the acquisition of Winternals Software LP, a privately held company based in Austin, Texas, that provides Windows®-based enterprises with systems recovery and data protection solutions in addition to offering a freeware tools Web site called Sysinternals. The addition of Winternals is a significant advance in Microsoft’s promise to lower customers’ total cost of ownership of the Microsoft® Windows platform. Customers will be able to continue building on Sysinternals’ advanced utilities, technical information and source code for utilities related to Windows. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Winternals was established in 1996 by Mark Russinovich and Bryce Cogswell, who are recognized industry leaders in the areas of operating system design and architecture. Russinovich will join the Microsoft Platforms & Services Division as a technical fellow, working with numerous technology teams across Microsoft, and Cogswell will join the Windows Component Platform Team in the role of software architect.

“I’ve had my eye on Mark for some time,” said Jim Allchin, co-president of the Platforms & Services Division at Microsoft. “The work he and Bryce have completed in system recovery and data protection illustrates the depth of thinking and skill they will bring to future versions of Windows. The addition of their deep kernel-level expertise to our existing strong talent will help provide us with the edge we need to continue to raise the quality and functionality bar for Windows on both the client and the server.”

ICANN votes against .xxx top-level domain for second time

March 30, 2007 (IDG News Service) -- The overseer of the Internet's addressing system today rejected for the second time the creation of a .xxx top-level domain, supported by some as a way to isolate adult content on the Internet.


Nine board members for the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers voted against the proposal at ICANN's 28th International Public Meeting in Lisbon, Portugal. Five voted in favor, and one member abstained, said Andrew Robertson, an ICANN spokesman.



Those rejecting a .xxx top-level domain said its creation could set ICANN up as a potential regulator of content on the Internet, which is not in its mandate. ICANN is responsible for the administration of the Domain Name System, the index that enables the translation of Web site URLS into numerical IP addresses that can be called up into a browser.


ICANN also rejected creating the domain last May. Critics of the new domain said it could make adult content easier to find, but others argued it would also make it easier to filter out with software. The domain also raised concerned over free speech and how content on a Web site may be classified.

به رغم اين محدوده*‏هاي ناامن، ايمن*‏ترين محدوده*‏هاي دامين مربوط به كشورهاي فنلاند، نروژ، ايسلند و ايرلند با ارقام به ترتيب 10/0 ، 16/0 ، 21/0 ، 19/0 و 11/0 بوده است.

Net reaches out to final frontier
A programme to kick-start the use of internet communications in space has been announced by the US government.

The Department of Defense's Iris project will put an internet router in space by the start of 2009.

It will allow voice, video and data communications for US troops using standards developed for the internet.

Eventually Iris could extend the net into space, allowing data to flow directly between satellites, rather than sending it via ground stations.

"Iris is to the future of satellite-based communications what Arpanet was to the creation of the internet in the 1960s," said Don Brown, of Intelsat General, one of the companies who will build the platform.

Arpanet (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network), the predecessor of the internet, was developed by the United States Department of Defense.

Remote access

The Iris (Internet Router Protocol in Space) project has been given the go ahead after winning funding from the US Department of Defense, under its Joint Capability Technology Demonstration (JCTD) programme.

The programme aims to develop advanced concepts and put "innovative concepts into the hands of war fighters in the field."

یک فرمت جدید که دقیقا عین PDF هست و ماکروسافت سخت پشتشو گرفته .

این فرمت XPS هست که با XPS viewer و XPS writer خوانده و نوشته میشه ، XPS viewer به صورت پیشفرض روی ویستا هست اما برای XP باید دانلود بشه .

جالب اینجاست که هنگام دانلود Transcript از سایت ماکروسافت حجم تقریبی XPS را 250KB نوشته و حجم تقریبی همین فایل را با فرمت PDF برابر 10MB نوشته در صورتی که هردو 300KB بیشتر نیستند ( این یعنی سیاست کاری )

توزیع دی وی دی کامل ویندوز 7 در شبکه های تورنت!

Not too long after Microsoft had released a developer build of the Windows 7 Milestone 1 release to a select few, review and opinion pieces started to leak onto Windows enthusiast sites by OEM employees or their beneficiaries. So it's hardly surprising that now -just a few days later, the full naked DVD image has started to show up on a few torrent sites.

Anonymous pirates vying to snatch credit for the first Windows 7 torrent have only served to frustrate, with many of the downloaders later verifying the various submissions as fake zero byte ISO images, and while we haven't been able to verify for ourselves if indeed a valid Win7 image has been leaked to the pirating community, it sure is stirring up a lot of interest in the past 24 hours!

اما گویا جدا آدم*هایی هستند که این حقیقت مسلم را که اینترنت بیشتر از 128kbs ، عملا به درد نمی*خورد و بی*مصرف می*ماند را باور ندارند. بیایید مروری بر دو خبر داشته باشید که من تازه در سایت*های اینترنتی خوانده*ام:
یک پیرزن سوئدی سریع*ترین سرعت دسترسی به اینترنت را در دنیا دارد
استکهلم ، سوئد : سیگبریت لوثبرگ Sigbritt Lothberg یک تازه*وارد به دنیای اینترنت است ولی این پیرزن 75 ساله سریع*ترین سرعت دسترسی به اینترنت را در دنیا دارد. وی می*تواند از طریق فیبر نوری با سرعت 40 گیگابیت در ثانیه به اینترنت متصل شود. مقامات شهر Karlstad که وی در آن زندگی می*کند ، این موضوع را تأیید کرده*اند.
وی می*تواند در کمتر از 2 ثانیه یک فیلم کامل را دانلود کند که هزاران بار سریع*تر از سرعت کاربران عادی اینترنت است.

او این سرعت دسترسی را مدیون پسر خود است. پسر این پیرزن -پیتر- با همکاری یکی از دوست اندر کاران شبکه مخابراتی شهر کارل*استاد ، یک تکنیک مدولاسیون ابداع کرده*اند که به یاری آن می*شود بدون هیچگونه دستگاه گیرنده واسطه*ای ، اطلاعات را بین دو روتور با فاصله 1240 مایل از هم ، انتقال داد.
پیتر لوثبرگ که یک متخصص شبکه است در این مورد می*گوید: «ما می*خواستیم نشان بدهیم که هیچ محدودیتی در سرعت اینترنت وجود ندارد.»
جالب است بدانید که این پیرزن پیش از این کامپیوتری نداشت و در حال حاضر فقط برای خواندن روزنامه*ها به اینترنت متصل می*شود.
سرعت دسترسی بالای این پیرزن بازتاب زیادی در سایت*های خبری داشته است و مطالب جالبی در مورد وی نوشته شده است ، مثلا «گرگوری سالیوان» نویسنده یک سایت آی*تی در پستی با عنوان «سیگبریت لوثبرگ ، با من عروسی می*کنی؟» ، از این پیرزن 75 ساله تقاضای ازدواج کرده است و از او خواسته علیرغم همه موانع عرفی و فاصله فیزیکی که از هم دارند ، با هم ازدواج کنند.
قطعا این پیرزن اگر بتواند از دست خواستگاران غربی*اش خلاص شود ، نمی*تواند مانع خواستگاران جوان آی*تی*دوست ایرانی شود!
اما خبر دوم در مورد هزینه اتصال به اینترنت با پهنای باند بالا است:
در آمریکا اینترنت پهن باند ، واقعا گران است
اگر هزینه اشتراک ماهانه را معیار در نظر بگیریم ، در سوئد بایستی 10.47 دلار بابت دسترسی به اینترنت با سرعت بالا بپردازید ، ولی در آمریکا برای همین کار باید 15.93 دلار بپردازید ، تازه این ارزان*ترین اشتراک اینترنتی پهن باند در آمریکا است.
ولی اگر ما شاخص دقیق*تری یعنی شاخص مگابیت در ماه را معیار بررسی مقایسه*مان قرار بدهیم ، به نتایج جالب*تری می*رسیم ، در ژاپن کاربران برای هر «مگابیت در ماه» مبلغ 22 سنت می*پردازند ، در حالی که در آمریکا باید 3.18* دلار برای هر «مگابیت» در ماه پرداخت کرد. به این ترتیب با این معیار دقیق*تر متوجه می*شویم که هزینه اتصال در آمریکا در واقع 15 بار گران*تر از ژاپن است و آمریکا از این لحاظ در مقام سیزدهم قرار می*گیرد.
در ژاپن شرکت NTT بابت اتصالی با سرعت 100 مگابیت دانلود و آپلود ماهانه از شما 49 دلار دریافت می*کند در حالی که Verizon FiOS در آمریکا بابت اتصال با سرعت 30 مگابیت در ثانیه دانلود و 5 مگابیت آپلود ، 191.2 دلار درخواست می*کند.
حالا شما ایران را در نظر بگیرید ، البته در هیچ جای دنیا سرعت 128kbs را اینترنت سرعت بالا نمی*دانند و اگر این حرف را به کسی بزنید ، بی*شک مایه تفریح همگان خواهید شد.
من دقیقا میانگین هزینه اشتراک ماهانه ADSL یا وایرلس شرکت*ها را الان ندارم ولی «فرض کنید» ، شما بابت اتصال 128kbs که حداکثر «مجاز» اتصال کاربران خانگی به اینترنت است ، ماهانه 20 تومان پرداخت کنید ، به این ترتیب با یک تناسب و ضرب و تقسیم مشخص می*شود که ما در بهترین حالت و اگر قطع شدن*های گاه و بیگاه و کاهش سرعت را در نظر نگیریم ، بابت هر «مگابیت در ثانیه» ، بیش از 160 دلار در ماه پرداخت می*کنیم.
به این ترتیب در خوش*بینانه*ترین حالت ممکن ، ما 50 برابر بیشتر از یک کاربر آمریکایی پول بابت دسترسی به اینترنت پرداخت می*کنیم. آن هم در شرایطی که گفته می*شود ، هزینه اتصال به اینترنت پهن باند در آمریکا بالا است.
