Install MDaemon
Introduction
MDaemon is available as a download from
Alt-N Technologies - Download Issues.
Requirements
Information You Need You need to know this information and answer these questions:
- Installation directory, the default is the \MDaemon directory on your start up disk.
- Name of the individual or company owning the MDaemon license.
- Name of your Alt-N distributor.
- The IP addresses of the Domain Name Servers you want the email server to use. You can also use the Windows default DNS servers.
- The first and last name, plus the email address, of your first account holder. Also, do you want this person to be the email administrator?
- Do you want MDaemon to run as a Windows service?
- Domain name of your email server. If your ISP is aliasing all of the mail you receive — that is, if you do not have a registered domain name — use company.mail, the default, as your domain name.
- Do you want to run MDaemon with the Advanced or Easy interface? You can always change this later.
Hardware and Software MDaemon most likely runs on both the hardware and the version of Windows you already own. Depending on its intended use, for instance, MDaemon runs on relatively small machines with any Windows version from Win95 OSR2 through XP Professional, plus the various Windows Servers.
These are the minimum recommended system requirements for MDaemon to run. This does not take into account running multiple programs simultaneously. To run several programs on one computer at the same time, that computer should exceed these recommendations.
- Computer with Pentium III 500 MHz (or higher) processor
- 512 MB of memory (1 GB recommended)
- Typical fard disk space required: 30MB, plus additional space for any mail to be stored
- Microsoft Windows 95 OSR2/98/ME/XP/NT/2000/2003 operating system
- Winsock 2 for Windows 95 OSR2
- Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher
- Ethernet Network Card
- TCP/IP network protocol installed
- Internet or Intranet communication capabilities
Note: MDaemon is no longer compatible with the original Windows 95 release. MDaemon now requires Windows 95 OSR2 or higher. Windows 95 installations require WinSock 2.0 to be installed.
