This setup will guide you through deploying a Live Communications Server pool. The guide refers to a single forest, single domain installation.
For the purposes of this guide, we are going to use 3 servers.
Server A = Windows 2003 Server STD. that IS configured as a domain controller and DNS server. (We are not going to run through the process of setting up a 2003 server as a domain controller, and we assume that you already have this server up and running.)
Server B = Windows 2003 Server STD. + Live Communications Server 2005 Enterprise Edition.
Server C = Windows 2003 Server STD. + SQL 2000 SP3 (We will take you through the installation of SQL2000 AND through the installation of SP3).

***All the following steps should be performed while you are logged on as Administrator ***

The steps…
Step 1 - Setting up Server A as a Windows Server 2003 Domain Controller. (We are not going to run you through the process of setting up a 2003 server as a domain controller, and we assume that you already have this server up and running)
Step 2 - Preparing the Active Directory (Performed on Server A).
Your installation of Live Communications Server 2005 is directly in the forest root rather than in another domain. There will be no need to run “ Domain Add to Forest Root”.Whenever you are given the option to view log (for example after the Prep Schema option) it is recommended to do it and look for the “Success” results.
1. Insert the LCS 2005 ENT. CD and launch the setup.

2. Click enterprise pool

3. Run the Prep Schema Option.

4. Click finish
5. Run Prep Forest

6. Click finish
7. Run Prep Domain

8. Click finish

Step 3 - Installing and Activating LCS 2005 (Performed on server C)
1. Insert the LCS 2005 ENT. CD and launch the setup.
2. Click “ Enterprise Pool”.

3. On the following screen enter your desired POOL name (in my example - pool1), enter the FQDN of the domain and enter the name of your SQL server. NOTE that if you installed the SQL DB used for LCS as another SQL instance - you should include the the instance name like so : sql_server_nameinstance_name

4. Leave the following box unmarked unless you want to overwrite old DB's.

5. On the following window - choose your desired directories. I would recommend using different partitions for potentially large databases, but for the purposes of this installation - the default location is left untouched.

Step 4- Install and Activate Live Communications Server (All performed on server B)

Insert the CD and launch setup.
Click “Enterprise Pool”.

Click “Install Files for Enterprise Edition Server”.

On the following screen - enter your user information

On the following screen - enter your desired installation path (I left it on default)

In the “Server Activation” dialog box, click “Yes”.

Select the pool that you created.

On the following page you can either enter a new or use an existing service account. If you specify a new account, the wizard creates and configures this account automatically.

On the following screen you can choose to use an archiving service. Since we didn't install it for this guide we will leave this option unmarked. we can always decide to use it later.

Click Finish
